On 3rd January 2017, the first four MOVE_UK vehicles started their trials on the streets of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Now they’re out on the roads, the Land Rover vehicles are being used for day to day Royal Borough of Greenwich activities. The vehicles are being driven with the Automated Driving Systems (ADS) de-activated but operating ‘silently’ in the background. This will allow the ADS features to be tested in real world conditions and “event-triggered” data to be recorded.
Before starting the trials, the vehicles spent time in Bosch workshops where they were fitted out with sensors, data recording equipment and data transmitting technology that will enable vehicle data to be collected and then transferred to the project’s secure data store for analysis.
Over the course of the first 20 months of the project we are aiming for five vehicles to complete 110,000 running miles – which we estimate we will need to cover in order to capture the required amount of data to prove out the new ADS validation method.
